One method is to thread the string through the hole in the tuner post (making sure you leave some slack for winding), pull the string around toward the inside of the post, loop it back underneath the string. This locks the string and prevents slippage. This method is often referred to as the "Lock and Wind".

Another simple method on how to sting a guitar is to pull the string through the tuner post hole (again leaving slack) and make a simple 90 degree bend on the side of the post. Then just wind the string as usual while holding the string with the right hand to keep tension. This locks the string against the tuner and prevents it from slipping.

Having properly installed strings will keep you in tune, give more sustain and longer string life. How to string a guitar properly is something all players should know!
